I've lived in Cha-am for five years and played golf in this area for about 7 years. During that time I've seen the prices rise at a steady level year after year. It's now reached what I would call a European price, about 60 GBP for a round of golf, Caddy and tip included.
Who are they targetting this price at? Koreans and Japanese are the only countries that spring to mind.
What really (tickles) me is the fact that, these local courses are practically empty in the off season ( March-October.) Wouldn't you think that they'd offer some incentives to come and play when things got a bit quiet?
For the last couple of years they've offered special prices at most of the courses during August. 1,000 baht + caddy+tip.
Here's my tip for anyone wishing to play golf at reasonable prices:
Go to Ratchaburi and surrounding districts, some of the best courses I've played from 450 baht upwards.
BTW. If you decide to retire and want to play golf, get yourself a membership. I did that and got my money back in just over a year!

I remember August last year they were offering special rates to encourage people to play in the off season.
Personally, I loved the fact that the courses were so quiet! less pressure and stress and a much more enjoyable round of golf.
I as thinking about buying a membership and I think it would be a good idea if you were definitely going to stay for a year. AFAIK, you can sell on the membership later - there were 2 types:
First was life membership and the second was for a specific period of time - say 20 or 30 years.
I think only Springfield were offering the life membership but if you can get it at a decent price that seems to be the way to go.
Onlyme, how often are you playing per week? _________________ www.geroreilly.com

I picked up an 18 year membership about 2 years ago and paid 128,000.
16 years left to run and I could sell it tommorow for 240,000.
I tried to get a few friends to buy but they baulked at the idea!
I average about 2.5 times per week

Hello Simon.
Sorry you wasted your money on a few golf clubs. I think it would be advisable to go and have a few lessons. Unaffordable? Next time you're up this way, pop in and I'll help you out.
